Green Retirement Living at Boston-Area North Hill
It seems fashionable for retirement communities to talk about "green living" these days. At North Hill, we'd rather make change than simply talk about it, approaching green or sustainable living through the lenses of our PurposeFULL Living philosophy and our True North Spirit.
"Going green" is another way we celebrate, protect and engage with the environment. We want to help preserve it and leave a better legacy for our children and grandchildren.
North Hill residents and team members take seriously our role as stewards of our campus and our natural world. For example:
- Our "Green Team" is constantly exploring and sharing ideas for positive impact with the members of our community. Simple changes in the team member café led us to decrease waste by 750 bottles/cans; 2,250 plastic utensils, and 750 Styrofoam containers. (Follow this link to read more from the Needham Patch.) When residents set their minds to reducing paper waste, they saved the equivalent of 67 adult trees - in just one month!
- The North Hill dining services team does its part by buying fresh, local food.
- We walk or use North Hill transportation to reduce our carbon footprint. That's a change that benefits physical wellness, too.
- During the True North expansion, North Hill and its partners in development are incorporating many sustainable features such as green roofs and a world-class greenhouse...
- Together with Consigli Construction, we are committed to reducing waste and any potential negative impact caused during construction.
